Hi I’m Jessica Amir with Bell Direct.
Today we’re going to walk through how to open a Bell Direct trading account so you can access our award-winning research and tools.
Now to open an account you’ll need a couple of things handy.
Firstly an Australian driver’s license or passport, your bank account details and your tax file number.
And if you have an account with another broker and are switching to Bell Direct, you’ll also need to have your Holder Identification Number (HIN) handy as well.
So head over to Bell Direct’s website and click join.
Now simply select the type of account you want, I’m going to set up an individual account.
Now let’s simply follow the prompts.
Entering your name, date of birth, email and phone number.
Then we’re going to select the account that will fund the securities to buy as well as receive the cash when we sell.
I’m going to select cash account and click next.
Now on to CHESS sponsorship.
This is simply asking if you want to establish a new Holder Identification Number (HIN).
Your HIN is simply a unique number issued by the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) when you become a client of a broker.
So the HIN is just simply going to track all of our shareholdings.
So if you already hold shares with another broker however, you can simply transfer your holdings over to your new account that you’re setting up today.
In that case, you’d simply select ‘No’, that you don’t want to establish a new HIN and then you’d enter your broker and HIN to transfer your portfolio to Bell Direct.
Now we have a separate video on how to transfer your holdings to Bell Direct, but for today let’s assume that you’re new to trading and don’t have other shares.
So let’s get a new Holder Identification Number, tick ‘Yes’, then ‘No’ to the below two questions.
Next you’ll need to give an address to put on your correspondence, then select if you want your annual report emailed or sent in the post.
Next we’ll just need to enter the bank account that links to your trading account.
So for me, I’m going to enter my Commonwealth Bank account and link that to my Bell Direct account.
Here is where we can select if we’re setting up a trading account for a minor under the age of 18.
I’ll select ‘No’, today we’re setting up our own account.
Now just enter a few more details and the source of your funds.
My source is savings.
Next Bell Direct needs to verify your identity.
So I’m going to put in my driver’s license.
Next if you’re an Australian resident, simply select ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ and enter your TFN.
So tax may not be deducted at the highest marginal tax rate.
Next, do you have a tax file exemption?
No I don’t, I’ll click ‘No’ here and I’m not a tax resident of another country.
Next you’ll need to enter an address that is not a PO box.
Confirm your contact details and how you want Bell Direct to contact you.
Next I’ll set up a username and keyword.
Now make sure you write these down and keep handy for safe keeping.
Now let’s review the application.
Once you’ve reviewed and happy with everything you’ve entered along the way, click ‘next’.
Now for security, we’ve just sent you an email about your application, it contains a pin.
You need to enter that to accept the declaration.
Put in your pin and check the boxes to verify the application.
Once you’ve confirmed your pin, your application is complete and will open your trading account and Bell Cash Trust if applicable.
You’ll also receive an email to set up your account password.
Now lastly but not least, if we can’t verify you electronically, you’ll just need to send in a certified copy of your ID.
You can either send it to us by email upload via the button here or send it in the post.
And that’s it!
Our award-winning customer service team will be in touch once your account is ready and then you can start investing using our award-winning research and tools.
